Interested in supporting our students and school?

We appreciate your willingness to help. Find out how below.

If you are 18 or older, your interest in working with kids and teachers is the basis for your success as a school volunteer. With the support of the BSMS Staff and our community members, we know our students can be successful now and in the future. Teachers tell us volunteer consistency and punctuality are more important than being an expert in a particular subject or having years of experience. We welcome seasoned professionals and newbies alike!

In order to volunteer, please follow these steps:

  • STEP 1: Complete the Granville County Schools (GCPS) volunteer process, which includes submitting a signed GCPS Volunteer Application. Volunteer screening includes a criminal background check, which helps ensure that students and staff work in safe environments and allows the school system to identify individuals who may pose a risk to students, staff or the school system.GCPS does not discriminate on the basis of age, color, disability, gender, marital status, national or ethnic origin, race, religion, sexual orientation, veteran status or any other characteristic in its educational programs, services or employment as provided in federal and state law.
  • STEP 2: Read the GCPS Volunteer Handbook and watch the training video on line or at a selected school. Training sessions as needed are offered at each school. Information covered in the training will include expectations for any GCPS campus; the role and conduct of volunteers in the schools; school and student safety and security; and laws, policies and rules related to volunteering. Additional training related to the specific tasks the volunteer will be performing may occur at any time on each school campus.
  • STEP 3: Sign a GCPS Volunteer Expectation Consent Form. This document is valid at any GCPS school and will be kept on file with the school or office where the volunteer is serving.
  • STEP 4: Be matched with a suitable task by the school volunteer coordinator and/or appropriate administrator. Volunteers will be placed according to needs of the school and based on the qualifications required for effective job performance.
