My name is Missy Cottrell and I am the nurse at BSMS.
Please check out the Student Health Services page on the Granville County Schools website. It has additional information regarding immunizations, illnesses, copies of medication forms, and some links to different websites.
I look forward to working with you and your child this school year. My scheduled day to be at BSMS is Wednesday, but I am available any time. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns at Missy Cottrell firstname.lastname@example.org .
North Carolina law requires all children in the state to receive certain immunizations. Records are checked when children enter school, and there are certain grade levels that require specific vaccines. For students entering the seventh grade, state law requires all adolescents to be up to date on all vaccinations and to receive one dose of Tdap vaccine and one dose of meningoccal conjugate vaccine. If you have any questions, please contact your health care provider or the health department.
Did You Know?
Most health issues/procedures can be handled at school. Therefore, students should not have to miss more than the allotted number of days per semester, due to health reasons. Call your school nurse regarding accommodations that can be implemented to keep your child in school.
We recommend students stay home from school for the following reasons:
- Fever of 100.5 degrees or higher
- Fever of 100 degrees with rash, known exposure to communicable disease, headache, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, or respiratory infection
- Crusty, red, weepy eyes
- Head Lice
- Vomiting/Diarrhea within 8 hours before coming to school
- Asthma symptoms that are not responding to medication
Medication Administration: Granville County School Policy states that a medication/authorization form is required for all students to receive medication (prescription or over the counter) at school. It must be completed and signed by parent and the student's doctor. This must be on file in the school office and medication will be administered by a staff member. Click on this block for the form.
